Learn to Dive Programme
(Lemmings)

The Lemmings learn to dive programme has been set up by Albatross
Diving Club, using our club coaches, to train young divers who have had little
or no diving experience to the standards set up by the Amateur Swimming
Association Diving Awards Scheme.
This award scheme is designed to give pupils an early
introduction to diving skills. It will provide under water confidence, body
awareness and develop skills for using the springboards, preparing the diver to
progress to advance skills when working with a specialized diving teacher
These progressive Awards are designed to reward the young diver from
preliminary, through to complex dives from the 3m springboard and 5m platform.
These awards range from:
Level 1: Introduction to diving (Preliminary Diver Award)
Level 2: Poolside Diving Skills (grades 1 to 5)
Level 3: 1 metre board skills (grades 1 to 3)
Level 4: Advanced Diving Skills (Bronze to Gold Challenge)

The training sessions are on Saturdays during school term times, starting at 12:30 p.m. for a 15 minute warm up and then the children enter the pool at 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. We continue training through school half terms with no break. The child must be able to swim a distance of at least 10 metres in deep water, the depth of the pool we use is 4 metres, and must be able to climb out on poolside without the use of steps.
